Humanitarian Crisis in Ethiopia
Ethiopia has been established and connected with wars by extremists, terrorists, radicals and socialists. Evidence shows that, Ethiopian people have suffered from this bad governance system, which contributed to the current humanitarian crisis, and absence of the rights and freedoms of the people in the country. Indigenous people (pastoralists from Afar, Ogaden, Gambella, Sidama and Oromia live under inconceivable harsh conditions. The root cause of the humanitarian crisis and political instability in Ethiopia is due to the arrogance and tyrannical attitudes of the Weyane rulers against other ethnic groups in the lowland / pastoral areas.
Women’s Crisis in the Ogaden Region
Currently, the Ethiopian army forces have engaged in a gang rape incident in different villages of Ogaden region. The victims were young girls and older women. The field reports confirmed rape spree by the Ethiopian armed forces that recently deployed in the area. Same things “rope of women by Ethiopian soldiers” have been reported in Oromiya, Afar and Gambella regions. This means, an organized Weyane’s dirty policy and strategy to spread diseases and HIV/AIDS, and disasters in the pastoral areas of the country. This kind of behavior and actions has been trendy for the Weyane administration for a long time. Recently the Weyane army and militia forces are losing hope. The Ethiopian people can’t stand Weyane anymore and they are doing this out of frustration and anger, It’s sad but what can you do to someone who has no conscious.
Humanitarian Crisis in Ogaden region
Ethiopia Government bans trade and also blocked aid going to the needy people in the Ogaden region, but gives special privileges “duty free to purchase food from Somalia) to the officials and their families (i.e. Abdi-Iley, Abaye Tsehay, army, and also security and militia officials, etc). The Weyane bandists sell it in Degahbour, Harar, Dire Dawa, Makale and other towns in the highlands. There are theft and organized looting by the Weyane officials and their families in the main towns of the Ogaden region. In the current mass detention in the region, the Weyane officials and militias have arrested most of the business people and looting their business without trail.
Since 2007, humanitarian interventions were affected by restriction of UN and NGOs operation in the region. Violence, displacement and access problems have threatened lives of the civilians in the region. UN and NGOs have reported humanitarian crisis in the region, denied access to the region and asked the government to allow humanitarian actors to provide assistances to the people who are facing an increasingly desperate situation. But, Ethiopia government refused any solution and continues restricting humanitarian assistance to the needy people in the region while using little food aid that gets through as a political weapon aimed at collectively pastoral community. In the past four years, the government closed operation of 60 NGOs in the country, and arrested their staff without trail.
Urgent Actions
Therefore, the international communities should protect the pastoral women from the Weyane crimes,d stop Weyane crimes and organized thefts and looting by the Weyane officials and their families in the Ogaden region, and also take the Weyane officials to the ICC. In addition, the Ethiopian people should take actions against this dirty work of Weyane in the pastoral areas of the country.
